Enough Already
May 27, 2012
If you are truly serious about changing the lens through which you view the world, then this is the book for you! In Enough Already, Alan Cohen forces us to reconsider self-imposed barriers we place on our abilty to truly appreciate our lives as they exist. The overall question that is asked: Are we living our lives from perspectives of abundance or from perspectives of void? If we focus on the blessings we already have, then we are better able to live in abundance and our material possessions become less significant. However, if we focus on what we don’t have, then all other aspects of our living becomes less fulfilling.
My key takeaways were 1) to view prayer as healing technology and to pray for quality of experiences rather than for specific outcomes, 2) to appreciate all that I have right here and right now, 3) that there is pupose to everything that happens, and 4) that acceptance, not complancancy, is a key factor in living a fulfilled life. I will be sharing this book with people who I know are stuck in a cycle of constantly “seeking” and never “gaining” because they cannot see the beauty of what they already have.
Cohen has written the book in such a way that you can hop around and select the topics that seem the most interesting, rather than reading each chapter in order. Although I opted to stick with his original order, I can tell you that each chapter truly does stand on its own. This book is packed with ideas, anectdotes, and examples that brings each chapter in to focus and allows you to decipher the full meaning of knowing that you are and have Enough Already!
